A refined blend of Malbec and Saperavi, matured in oak barrels for twelve months. Both varieties are grown on the estate at Găvănoasa, in the protected Valul lui Traian zone of southern Moldova, and picked by hand from vines held to six tonnes a hectare. Malbec brings plum and dark chocolate, Saperavi the savoury spine, and the two meet in a wine of velvety texture and real depth.

Delicate blackberry and blackcurrant, with violets.

The producer

Château Cristi

Château Cristi was founded in 1882 by Vladimir Cristi, a mayor of Chișinău. The estate farms 120 hectares near Găvănoasa, in Valul lui Traian in the south of Moldova, with twelve grape varieties. Its estate wines are harvested by hand, kept to six tonnes a hectare and aged six to twelve months in oak.
