The Family Reserve is the house's limited bottling, drawn from the best barrels of the year; this one is pure Cabernet Franc, aged twelve months in French oak and given only a gentle filtration before bottling. The grapes are hand picked at Găvănoasa, in the protected Valul lui Traian zone of southern Moldova, from vines limited to five tonnes a hectare. Four thousand bottles were made.

Tasting notes

Aroma

Intense, on ripe berries, with spice, tobacco, chocolate and a light smokiness.

Palate

Powerful and structured, with bright tannins and fruit held against oak.

Finish

Long and elegant, with a light mineral accent.

The producer

Château Cristi

Château Cristi was founded in 1882 by Vladimir Cristi, a mayor of Chișinău. The estate farms 120 hectares near Găvănoasa, in Valul lui Traian in the south of Moldova, with twelve grape varieties. Its estate wines are harvested by hand, kept to six tonnes a hectare and aged six to twelve months in oak.
