Their journey
The story
Château Cristi was founded in 1882 by Vladimir Cristi, a mayor of Chișinău. He was a patriot as well as a winemaker, and he passed the making of quality wine down from one generation to the next. A century later, the estate still keeps to the traditions of the Cristi family.
Today its vineyards cover 120 hectares near the village of Găvănoasa, in the historic Valul lui Traian area in the south of Moldova, where the estate grows twelve grape varieties. The grapes for its estate wines are harvested by hand only, and the yield is held to six tonnes a hectare. Every wine in that range is then aged in oak barrels for six to twelve months.
